There’s something magical about lighting candles at home. They instantly change the atmosphere — warm, peaceful, and beautifully calming. So this time, I’m sharing a simple and fun DIY project: how to make a concrete candle stand in two different styles.
It’s easy, inexpensive, and gives your home that raw, modern look everyone loves.
Materials You’ll Need
- White cement
- Gray cement
- Water
- Sand
- A plastic or disposable container (for mixing concrete)
- Disposable spoon or plastic spatula
- Acrylic paint
- Plastic mold of your choice (I used small square bowls)
- Disposable espresso cup
- A few stones (to weigh down the cup)
Part 1: White Concrete Candle Holder
1. Prepare the concrete
In your mixing container, combine:
- 1 small cup of white cement
- ½ cup sand
- ½ cup water
Pour the water gradually while mixing until the concrete becomes smooth and creamy.
2. Add color
Mix in a bit of acrylic paint if you want a tinted look.
3. Pour into the mold
Pour the white concrete mixture into your plastic bowl mold.
4. Create the candle space
Place a disposable espresso cup in the center.
Add a few stones inside the cup so it doesn’t float.
Let the mold dry for 24–48 hours.
Part 2: Gray & Marbled Concrete Candle Holder
This version has a beautiful organic look because it mixes leftover white concrete with gray concrete.
1. Prepare gray concrete
In the same mixing container, combine:
- 1 small cup gray cement
- ½ cup sand
- ½ cup water
Mix until creamy.
2. Add leftovers
Take whatever white concrete you have left and fold it into the gray mix.
This creates a natural marbled effect when it dries.
3. Pour and set
Transfer the mixture into your mold.
Place the espresso cup in the middle, add stones to weigh it down, and let it dry for 1–2 days.
Finishing Touches
Once both candle stands are fully dry:
- Remove the espresso cup
- Gently sand the edges using sandpaper to smooth them out
That’s it — your handmade concrete candle stands are ready!
Minimalist, modern, and perfect for adding a warm glow to your home.
